THAT STANDS OUT

Champion Iron, through its subsidiary Quebec Iron Ore, is a leader in producing high-purity iron ore concentrate. Thanks to renewable hydroelectric power, this concentrate is produced with one of the world’s lowest carbon footprints.

From our Bloom Lake facilities, we produce a high-grade iron ore concentrate (66.2% Fe) and have proven our ability to produce a superior 67.5% Fe concentrate.

In addition, our project to produce direct reduction pellet feed (DRPF) is progressing as scheduled. Optimizing the processing cycle at one of our two plants will enable us to convert half of our production into a 69% Fe concentrate, one of the purest in the world.

DECARBONIZING THE
STEEL INDUSTRY

Steel is one of the most widely used materials in the world, and the only metal required in all technologies to support and accelerate the energy transition.

Énergie renouvelable

To reduce the emissions generated by steelmaking, more and more steelmakers are announcing major investments to replace their traditional blast furnace processes with electric arc furnaces, which require high-purity iron. This combination makes it possible to produce steel using natural gas and electricity rather than coal, emitting 50% to 85% less CO2 than the traditional process.

The high-purity iron found in the Labrador Trough is now recognized as a critical and strategic mineral by the governments of Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Canada.

This recognition underscores high-purity iron’s exceptional solution for decarbonizing the steel industry, which accounts for almost 10% of global carbon emissions. The Labrador Trough is home to one of the world’s largest inventories of high-purity iron resources, offering an unparallelled opportunity to become a sustainable global leader in the green steel supply chain.
